Dr. Michael J. Savoie, Ph.D., serves as the Dean of the College of Technology & Computing at Utah Valley University.  As Dean, Dr. Savoie oversees a college with 101 full time faculty, 36 full time staff, and over 180 part-time employees.  The College has approximately 4,000 declared majors and an annual budget approaching $18M.  He was recently awarded a $300,000 National Science Foundation grant to create a pollution monitoring grid for the Utah Valley.

Prior to joining UVU, Dr. Savoie served as Director of the Center for Information Technology and Management (CITM) in the School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas.  Dr. Savoie was the Center’s founder and has served as Director since 2001.  He has been involved in over $50M in grants and projects and has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on over $3M in projects for the Center. 

Dr. Savoie is an award-winning teacher (2012 Undergraduate Teacher of the Year) with over 25 years of University experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  His teaching has focused on the Integration of Information Systems with Business Processes.  Classes taught include Social Media, E-Business, Information Systems Management, Information Systems Strategy, and Project Management. In 2011, he taught International Trade and Investments (IT Focus) in Seoul, South Korea.

Dr. Savoie is the author of over 150 articles, chapters, and books on information technology, data security, electronic commerce, quality, operations management, and continuous improvement, among others.  His current writings explore the role of information technology in organizational transformation.  His latest book Building Successful Information Systems: Five Best Practices to Ensure Organizational Effectiveness and Profitability was published by Business Expert Press in December 2012. 

Dr. Savoie is also President and CEO of HyperGrowth Solutions, Inc., a company specializing in the integration of business and technology.  He has over 25 years of experience in Cyber Security, Data Vulnerability, Executive Management, Information Systems, Engineering, Operations Management, Quality Management & Control and Training.  Dr. Savoie is an internationally recognized public speaker, serves as a consultant to numerous companies, and is currently working as a technology advisor to federal, state, and local governments.

Prior to starting HGS, Dr. Savoie served as Chief Operating Officer for a nuclear power consulting company, focusing on strategic positioning, information technology and training.  He has performed work for a myriad of public and private enterprises including Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation, the U.S. Department of Energy, BellSouth Telecommunications Company, and Chevron, U.S.A. 

Dr. Savoie was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation Board of Directors in 2008 and reappointed in 2011.  He stepped down in March 2013. While on the board, he served as Chair of the Budget, Finance and Audit (BFA) committee.  Dr. Savoie served 4 terms as Mayor of the Town of Northlake as well as one term on the city council.  He was a founding member of the Northwest Communities Partnership and served as its first Treasurer.   Dr. Savoie has also served on various boards and commissions in Texas including the Upper Trinity Regional Board of Directors, the Trinity River Authority Board of Advisors, various Mayor’s councils and road coalitions.  He served an integral role in the upgrading of roads in Denton County, including expansions of SH 114, FM 1171, and FM 407.  He was involved in economic development in Denton County, including Texas Motor Speedway and Robson Ranch.  Dr. Savoie also co-authored the award-winning Northlake Strategic Master Plan.

Dr. Savoie has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in Operations Management with a Business Computer Information Systems support.
